I've had this alarm for two months now and just ordered a second for the back door. The door alarm is Rather loud and piercing. I would assume a burglar would not bother entering a dwelling if this alarm was set off. If you want to use the Property mode (so that it sounds off suitable away when the door is opened), you have a selection of deciding on "chime" or "alarm." For the Residence mode making use of "alarm" you do have to activate it with your four digit code but you do not will need to punch in your code if you happen to be employing "chime" for Residence mode.
